Excellent hats, bought 2 beautiful and unique Stetson fedoras, of which I've been a long time afficianado, and since the prices and styles selection were so outstanding, even bought a third of a different brand. Nice pork pies and other styles too. I'm a musician from Detroit, where I've also shopped hats, along with other Chicago, New Orleans and Los Angeles shops, but Spink's is IMHO, better than most anywhere. By far the best in Chicago. Excellent prices. A great find, due to talking with some sharp-dressed man on Michigan Avenue, sporting a fine hat, who had been listening to my music. Not the absolute worst, but kinda tough neighborhood, just be alert when walking and parking, and by all means don't flash money, fancy watches, and gold, unless you're prepared to defend it with violence, but I doubt you'll be accosted, might be a good idea not to linger after dark, no doubt a reason they are not open late. Just some street dudes on the corner made some comments to me coming back to my van, actually rather friendly, nothing really threatening, perhaps just testing how a middle-aged white guy would react, but growing up in a NW Detroit neighborhood which turned pretty rough, and being a long time musician street performer in Chicago, and all over, I've seen and heard plenty. This was actually an interesting trip to a Chi-Town neighborhood by the somewhat infamous Garfield Park neighborhood, which I might never have ventured into otherwise. You can see a lot of beautiful Old Chicago along the way, a bittersweet feeling of old grandeur and recreation spots, now in sad decline. Back to Spink's, run by some hard-boiled, but friendly and helpful old-time Chicago characters, who didn't pressure me in the least, seemed to enjoy haggling a bit with me, and gave me a very fair shake, with prices quite a bit cheaper than I expected, plus some fun conversation thrown in. Great experience, by all means go, I know I'll be back. Tremendous hats, unfortunately didn't have time to check out much of the rest of their inventory, some of it rather loud and ghetto, but no doubt some hidden gems around! Regrets to not investigating the shoes. Next time in Chicago, still a wonderful city, don't let all the recent bad publicity scare you off. Unfortunately, the residents have to deal with the sins of past politicians, city labor unions, and the Not Great State of Illinois, taxing residents into flight or hell. Still... It's Chicago!
Great store for men. I have purchased several hats from them.
